Does Kodi 'cache' container.viewmode for some folders or am i doing something wrong?

I've had some feedback from a few people that if they set a view for a certain content type that is a sub category, e.g movies under sets or seasons under tv shows, the view is not always consistent within each set or within each tvshow.

I've observed this behaviour in my own skin and in some others including, from memory, Estuary. E.g.

1) In Movies > Titles, I see (Container.Content = Movies, Container.ViewType = Grid)
2) I go into Movies > Sets > The John Wick Collection and movies are showing my Grid view.
3) I set the viewtype in my menu to Strip. Now I see (Container.Content = Movies, Container.ViewType = Strip) in the John Wick Collection.
4) I go back to Movies > Titles and still see Container.ViewType = Grid.
5) I change Container.Viewtype to Billboard.
6) Back in Sets, most movies in sets are now displaying in Billboard, but the John Wick Collection still shows Container.ViewType = Strip.

If Kodi is somehow remembering individual container viewtype settings for each set of movies/seasons/episodes etc, is there a way to override this behaviour? Or should this not be happening?
